For my album cover I am going to design it with the genre; R&B in mind. I have made up an artist and an album title etc. I am taking my own photos and then manipulating them on Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. The target audience is 17 - 22 year olds so I want to make something that appeals to that demographic. In order to understand what my album cover must contain to achieve this, I have to look at other pieces of artwork to help me get a better understanding of what it is I need. Inspirations After researching modern R&B album artworks I came across two in particular, that had caught my attention. I found the retro style photos appealing and the text that came with both of them really complimented the style and as a result reflected not only the songs but the artists very accurately. A homepage is the first tab you see when you click on a website. It is like a menu page that helps you navigate around the site. As this is the first thing people see when they click on, you want this one to always be good looking for the viewer.  In this example, we have the Logo/ name in the top left corner with the different pages that you can go on the top right. We then have a motto in big text in the centre with a background following the theme of the page.

From looking at both home pages it is clear that they share similarities and themes with one and other. For example the white text placed at the top left corner. Both using the same music video and the menu bars at the top. I had only seen the real website after I had made mine so I had nothing to base it off of. It is very clear that the thought behind the design was the same in that they both replicate his music and style.

When designing the layout of the website, I tried to replicate the themes in his songs through the text, pictures and layout. I went for quite a slick, clean, white text similar to the text on the album. I then found a picture from the internet which I used as the homepage background. I chose this one because he was positioned right of the centre which was perfect for where I wanted to place the text. The colours where quite soft and in many ways added to the chilled out vibes. I then Added the music video - Something Tells Me which is his latest music video from his album. I then uploaded a song from his True to Self album with a song by him that you can play. I also found a quote from him taking about his album that explained a little bit and gave some context to the album. 

The main purpose for a music video is promotion. Whilst sales fro the video can help, the main reason for making a music video is money and music studios know that if they release a music video for a popular song, it will help promote the track and more people will buy the track and consequently, the studios will gain more profit. However, a track can also showcase the artist and give the listeners an idea about what the artist is like and how she/ he feels. In this case, Madonna has a lot to say, and gets it all out through the visuals of this music video. The music video 'Like a Prayer' has been listed as one of the most controversial videos ever made. This is due to the main themes and style of the piece. For example, one of the main sections involves madonna dancing with burning crosses behind her. The crosses have a direct reference to christianity and/or religion. However burning crosses symbolises the KKK. As far as sensitivity goes, religion is up there w...

In this next A2 year I shall be creating a music video and a marketing campaign based around that music video. This will include an album cover and an artist website.
