Shoot reflection
Preparation
The night before our shoot I wanted to make sure I didn't forget anything so to help make sure of this not happening, I wrote down a list of everything I needed to remember to bring.
I also sent out an email to the actors reminding them what to bring so they don't forget anything.
I woke up 15 minutes earlier than usual so that I wouldn't be rushed and I would get in to school early so I could have a big breakfast.

My contribution
At the start of the shoot before filming, I helped direct and block the scene with the actors so they would know their queues, directions and actions so that when it comes to filming they already know what to do and we save time, We also used this as a rehearsal for the actors.
Then once we started filming, I started as the mic operator, making sure the mic is picking up the sound and pointing the mic towards the action. I did this for the majority of the morning as well as helping out with the directing.
After our lunch break, I filmed alongside Alicia, taking turns to operate the camera with the help of an additional member of staff with past experience to help setup and advise us with the shots. We also then took turns in directing it towards the end.
Problems
Something that we hadn’t taken into consideration is how cold it was going to be. Whilst this was a problem for everyone because we were all cold, it was mainly a problem for our actress, El who had to wear a dress. To help her keep warm we would put jackets, blankets etc. to warm her up in between shots and as soon as she finished each shot, we quickly covered her up and tried to film the shots as fast as possible.
As well as this, we hadn’t thought through where El would get changed. So we had to send Alicia to go with her to the stairs and change there.
Because we were in a car park, the buses couldn’t fit in. This was a challenge as it meant that we could no longer use the bus and we had to use a regular car. After a brief debate, we decided to go with Luke’s car which was a Volvo Estate. This seemed like the best choice at the time as all of the other cars were quite modern hatchbacks and we needed a big car. In addition to this, we couldn’t actually drive it which became a problem as this meant we wouldn’t be able to film anything with the car moving. So to overcome this problem, we filmed everyone in the car from the boot acting as they’ve just came to a stop. Whilst this is a substitute, it still looked very believable.
Outcome
Despite a few things going wrong and a few slight changes in our thriller, I feel that overall, it was a success and I look forward to editing the footage alongside my group. The actors were very good and patient with us which helped a lot. Whilst I found it hard to let go of some ideas I knew that in the long run it would better the project and I was willing to make the sacrifices if I had to. I feel that as a group we pulled together and helped each other out and worked as team and thats what made our shoot go so smoothly.
