The 'What if I go?' music video shares many of the same aspects that we aim to have for our music video and we have partially shaped our music video concept from this. The idea of youth culture in London is something that I feel is important and get's mis-interpreted a lot of time. This video breaks away from this and the viewers get an insight of what it's really like to be a part of the London youth culture. It also explores young love with the flirtatious couples in the video. The video has a very raw, gritty feel to it. It doesn't seem set up and has a genuine feel to it. This combined with the way the video has been shot and the aesthetics each shot leaves the viewers with a very clear and accurate idea of what the London youth is about. It's clear that the outfits that the people are wearing are clothes they wear everyday and haven't been asked to wear something that they feel uncomfortable in. It's also very clear that they are comfortable...

Research into 3d Cameras

Image
I have been researching into how to get the wobble 3d camera effect that you see in mura masa's music video for 'What if I go?'. This seems to be more of a complex process than I had initially thought. To help gain an idea of how we would do it, I youtube searched 3d camera wobble effect and this came up: After watching this I looked into the Nishika cameras to see if that would be something we could buy or something that is too expensive or too unreliable so I went on amazon to see what the reviews were:   These reviews basically explain that whilst the cameras are good if your using them for a bit of fun then they can be okay, however if your spending a fair amount of money on it and have high expectations, then you will be disappointed. Also something that we need to keep in mind is that because they are film cameras, we have to wait for the film to be developed. So after seeing that the actual vintage film cameras might look like more of a complic...

I looked at a series of music videos from the hip hop - house producer from Montreal. I looked at all the aspects in each of his videos and put it all in a slide show presentation along with other artists that each member of the group also researched about. Here is a quick video of the process of making the presentation: Here is the finished presentation point: This has helped me to understand about the different strands that I need to have in my music video and that they have to be able to link one way or another. Weather it's through the style, narrative or themes - as long as it links in some way it will make sense cut together. I also have realised that we have to keep in mind that we have to do something that would be appealing for our audience, and not just what we think would be cool. After seeing how much help this was for me, I'm going to do an in depth video analysis of another music video in essay form.

Our possible cast

Image
Whilst we aim to have more people, we have put together a list of people that we defiantly want to feature in our music video. Some are from in school, and some are outside of school. Guy Newland Shane KG Marcus Woodhead Daisy Jelley Isaiah St Jean  So far these are the possibilities of cast members for our main features. However we are still looking to bring more people into it once we have a better idea of how many people we want in it.

Lukes Feedback

Image
Luckily for us, Luke was keen on our first idea so we didn't need to pitch our second idea. However he did flag up some things that we need to look into before committing to this idea. Below, I have made a table in which I have simplified his concerns and then given a possible solution for the problem so our group can discuss and talk through each point easier. Now that we are clearer on the things we need to watch out for and keep in mind when preparing for our music video I feel that we are a step forward in the right direction. Now we have more things to do in terms of planning.

Our 2nd pitch

Our 2nd pitch was produced by Myself and Aidan whilst the girls worked on the 2nd one. Although we did do these separately we still all constructed the main points together.

Our 1st pitch

For our first pitch one, Maya and Mima designed it whilst me and Aidan helped them promote the main ideas and give them any additional information they needed.

Finding our concept - Idea 2

Image
At first we decided to use t a combination of ideas for our 2nd concept however since then we have coe up with something completely  different to our last idea. This is what we had came up with before, heres a brief description  Aidan had wrote on his blog. "After combining our two previous ideas into one, we were now left wi a large gap to fill. This was a whole second idea we had to come up with and further develop. We took a lot more time thinking about this idea and making it different enough from the first one. However in the end we had decided on a final idea. Our second idea would incorporate my silhouette idea, and Mima’s animation idea. It would be a much more simple idea as it would involve only a rapper in the studio. He would be on a green screen that we would turn white or possibly just a white background and be rapping and dancing etc. Similarly to Bruno Mars’ music video of “That’s what I like” small animations would be around him or on him. Possibly ...

Developing Ideas 2

Image
We recently found out that Aidan's dad has a house that he is going to demolish. They have agreed to let us film in that house if we wanted to and we can trash it as much as we want and it doesn't matter. This could of course be something ideal for shooting a music video so we are going to try to incorporate it into our second idea. This now gives us some direction of where we could go with the 2nd concept and what we want to be filming. For example - a house party or something like that.

Finding our concept... - Idea 1

Image
After stripping down all of the ideas that didn't look like an idea that could go somewhere, we found ourselves combining some of our ideas to make the ideal music video that we would all be excited about making. I found a song that inspired the concept, Egyptian Joint, by Young Bull. This song is very laid back and chilled and I think it catches the vibe that our group had in mind. We already knew we didn't want a narrative and when listening to this, we visualised the streets of London, Youth, Bright lights, Smoke and of course a rapper performing to the camera as he walks down the streets as well as in the studio. I find it hard to really explain in detail what I picture in my head so I decided to make a mood board which could better illustrate what I mean...

Developing Ideas

We called up one of the people that managed one of the locations for our concept - God's Junkyard. Mima called them up but unfortunately they wouldn't let anyone film in public times. They did however say we could film when they are closed to the public but we would have to pay £400 for only 2 hours. So we now have to go back and look for another location similar to this. After not having any luck with Gods Junkyard, we did look at other places that could be a potential filming location: Camden: Carnaby Street:  Leicester Square: Oxford Circus: Soho: All of these places would be really good options for filming and all of them are public places which makes it really accessible and easy if we need to go back and shoot anything. Another plus about these locations (Excluding Camden) is that they are all within walking distance which would be ideal for how we want to shoot because we could quickly get a shot at one location and move ...

Lukes talk

Image
Today, we had the head of film come in and talk about some things that we should keep in mind when coming up with our music video concepts. He also showed us some low budget music video examples that kept to these rules.  The Do’s and Don’ts from Luke   • Think of this as a real production company • Different from television   • Biggest marketing tool for music companies   • Think in a low budget way • Not high budget production  • Keep the set build simple for production  • Be realistic  Out of all of the videos that stood out most for me was one he showed us by Alt J (Breezeblocks) The reason this really sticks out is because of the simplicity of the set and how they really just relied on their creativity to make the video work. Whilst their creativity lied mostly in the narrative and how they revealed things in reverse, I would take the way they used creativity and focus it towards the way we fil...

Group Chat

Image
To make it easier for us all to communicate with each other, I made a group chat on facebook messenger. This will make it a lot more convenient if we ever need to discuss anything or arrange a meeting outside of class.

My Production Group

Image
aToday in class, we were put into our production groups for our music videos and we all talked about our ideas and started to narrow it down. We made a list of all of our ideas and linked the ones that were similar. We then brain stormed and came up with concepts from all of our joint ideas to see what could be possible. We were all very lucky in that we had came up with similar concepts so when it came to merging our ideas together, there were no conflicts within the group. This session was really just to get an idea of what we all were thinking to put forward for our music video and seeing what ideas could work well together and what we might have to scrap.

Feed back from my ideas

Image
On the first week back at school, the class had to do a presentation on their three ideas/ concepts for the music video. The purpose of this was mainly to determine who would work well together in a group and to narrow down the ideas down to one. It was also so that the class could give feedback on the person presenting. This way all of us could go away and work on the things that needed work. When it came to my feedback I got someone to film it so when it came to polishing the ideas, I had the feedback at hand:  This gave me a lot to think about as it made me realise what would be possible and what wouldn't. For example one of the things said about the animation idea was that it was "Unless your an animator, that kind of stuff is very labour intensive and would take up a lot of time" This gave me a chance to re think how hard all of these effects would be to do and if it would look tacky unless done very in depth. Now I have a route I want to go down which is more ...

My Websites and Album cover for each artist

Image
I have constructed a website and an Album cover as a first draft for the music campaign with each artist. As all the genres are very different, it meant I had to take a different approach to each one.  Artist No. 1:  Home page:  Orfom is the name I came up with for the band that perform 99 shades of crazy. This was my first idea and with an idea of what the music video would look like, I had something to work off of when designing my website homepage. I chose the picture because it reflects the style of music they make and wrote a small bio explaining what the band are about.  Album cover:  I kept in mind the main themes of the music video and homepage and decided to go out and shoot the cover with a friend that fitted the look I was going for. I went to a field in the evening and shot portraits with him as the "Lead singer".  After editing a handful of my favourite ones I narrowed it down to the one I thought was the best.   ...

Developing ideas - Idea 3

Image
For my 3rd concept, I want to use 'Butterfly Effect' by Travis Scott: The music video mainly consists of a combination of animation, fast cars and some creative editing elements. It is a typical rap music video because of the main themes that are exhibited. However it does have a lot of things that would contradict typical rap music videos like the style of of the shots and the editing. For my music video, I want to have the artist as the main focus and I want to use the studio for a lot of my shots. I would have low lighting and red smoke in the background with the artist rapping to the  camera. I would then have another set with all white background and have close ups of girls and their eyes with a mask on. I also want to have a shot where the artist is standing on some glass and the camera is underneath the glass. The artist is rapping to the camera and has a cup with water and is spilling it onto the camera which I think would be quite a unique shot. Inspiration I...
