Feed back from my ideas

On the first week back at school, the class had to do a presentation on their three ideas/ concepts for the music video. The purpose of this was mainly to determine who would work well together in a group and to narrow down the ideas down to one. It was also so that the class could give feedback on the person presenting. This way all of us could go away and work on the things that needed work. When it came to my feedback I got someone to film it so when it came to polishing the ideas, I had the feedback at hand:

This gave me a lot to think about as it made me realise what would be possible and what wouldn't. For example one of the things said about the animation idea was that it was "Unless your an animator, that kind of stuff is very labour intensive and would take up a lot of time" This gave me a chance to re think how hard all of these effects would be to do and if it would look tacky unless done very in depth. Now I have a route I want to go down which is more my Idea 2 and possibly 3. A lot of people made the point that I could combine ideas 2 and 3 as they both had the same type of style and shots.

With the feedback in mind, I plan to do the following:

• Research into animation and see what software I would use and how much time I would actually need to work on it to make it look good.

 • Make up a list of shots and locations I want to have and work out how long each shot would be in the music video.

• Research on 3D cameras and experiment using the fast mode on my normal camera to see if it has the same effect as a 3D camera.

• Look into who I could use and how many people I want in my music video so I have a rough idea in my head for transport etc.

• Look into how I would use the glass and shoot underneath with the camera for the water shot.

• I need to see if I would film on an old camera to get the grainy effect or if I should do that in post.

• Lastly I need to figure out exactly what aesthetic shots I want to do and how I would accomplish them. (Like the smoke shot)

  1. Matt, excellent job here, I especially like your list in the end that shows how you are using the research to inform your planning. One piece of advise I would give you going forwards is that it might be useful to here either quotes, or better to show short video extracts of the key feedback and then link these to your planning steps in a more direct way. Last year one of my students did this quite effectively using a table http://vicmaximovahurtwoodmedia.blogspot.co.uk/2016/12/focus-group-2-feedback.html

I thought you did a fantastic job on your pitches, it was great to see a lot of detail and thought had gone into them. I am also really impressed to see that you have started experimenting with ideas for digpak designs. It will be interesting to see how your development with your group moves on from here... Well done, Phil
